Belly up!
Everyone has told me that true hands and knees crawling happens overnight...well, not for Simon. He has been on the move for quite some time now, at least a month and a half, primarily using the "wounded soldier" method of locomotion. And he has been perfectly happy, getting wherever he wanted to go. Then slowly, he started adding in true hands and knees movement, and then this past weekend, we reached a tipping point--more than 50% of the movement was with his belly off the ground. Once he figured out how great life can be when you are crawling rather than galumphing around, that was it. He's officially a "crawler"...check him out!

10 Months old!
Simon is 10 months old today, and it's been a big month for him! Let's see...he is able to do the regular hands and knees crawl, and usually starts out with a few of those "steps"...and then flops down and does his standard wounded soldier army crawl. Either way, he's moving all the time now, and his favorite destination is the bathroom. We're not sure what it is that he loves about the bathroom, but that's where he always heads.
He is also pulling up on anything and everything he can find--the coffee table...the bathub...dad. And he is starting to take his first hesitant steps while holding on to furniture. I wouldn't quite call it "cruising" yet, but it won't be long.
He is also FINALLY getting some teeth--his first was the front top right tooth, followed quickly by both bottom middle fronts with yet another coming in up top any day now. He is being a champ through all of this teething--with some serious help from baby ibuprofen!
So, lots of firsts this month! We are starting to gear up for his first birthday party, and now that the weather is finally turning to summer we are getting out more and even taking him in the "hot tub", albeit with the temperature turned down.
happy 10 months, Simon!

A big video day
We have three videos to share, all of which were taken today! They are all under a minute long, so no need to worry about losing the rest of your day to Simon's antics.
In this first one, Matt set up a big cardboard box for Simon to play around in. Well, it won't come as a surprise to anyone who knows him to see that as soon as the camera came out, that was all Si was interested in. I swear he's going to be an actor.
Next, Simon clearly thinks Leia is hysterical, and can't stop laughing at her while she plays...
Finally, we have been trying to introduce Simon to some new foods. Matt actually made a baby-specific recipe for Simon's dinner--Tilapia in an orange sauce. Ummm...clearly Simon hasn't yet acquired a taste for seafood.

6.6.10 spraying water.mpg
Simon loves water--if he sees a glass of water he will do anything to get to it. The same goes for sippy cups, mugs, bathwater...any water he sees, he wants to drink. So when he got a look at our new water spritzer, I knew he wouldn't be satisfied until he figured out how to drink from it.

Memorial Day Weekend
Our 4 day Memorial Day weekend was a little depressing--good old Seattle offered us nothing but cold and rain until about 3PM on Monday. We made the most of our time indoors though...Simon perfected his injured soldier creep and checked out most of the house from his belly. We gave him an emergency bath after he woke up from sleeping in his own spit up (it was truly disgusting), and after his bath we took some shots of him in the robe that Uncle Mark and Heather sent him for Christmas. He looked like a little boxer, too cute.
And we took advantage of the few hours of sun to take him swinging for the first time. He loved it!
