Recent visits

We had some visitors over the past couple of months and I am finally getting around to getting the pictures in order. First, we had Grandma and Aunt Karyn come out to visit in early April. The weather wasn't wonderful, but we got out for a walk and Grandma got to spend some quality time with Simon while I napped! He also learned how to "box" which became a favorite game.

Then we had Grandpa and Laura come out a few weeks later. Again, the weather wasn't spectacular, so we headed to the aquarium...which Simon loved! We also did lots of playing and went out to breakfast, where Simon flirted with all the waitresses, as usual.

Thanks for visiting us everyone!

9 Months Old!

Simon turned 9 months old on Wednesday. We took him in for his regular appointment, and his stats are: 28.5" long (75th percentile) and 22.5 lbs (80th percentile)...and the doctor says he looks great!

Some fun new developments this month: he's on the move, more and more each day, I'm expecting he'll be crawling pretty soon. He's babbling all the time, he can say mamamama and dadadada, lots of B and G and N sounds. He's eating all kinds of foods, and we are moving away from all purees and more towards table foods. He's still completely toothless, but has more hair every second--we even had to cut the hair over his ears, he looked like a little pixie. And we finally we able to stop his reflux medicine...it's been 2 days without it and so far so good!

So, without any further ado, Simon's 9 month picture. And enjoy the outfit, we actually had to cut it off him because the material had no stretch and we couldn't get his chubby little arm out!

more videos

A couple more videos from the past week.

First, Simon is on the move! It's not crawling, and it's not super efficient, but he can get where he wants to go. He keeps getting up on his hands and knees, so true crawling isn't far behind, but check out his new moves in the meantime.

This was cute: Simon found a cat toy and was playing with it, oblivious to the fact that Leia thought the toy was for her. I think they will have fun together some day.

Sad news

Sadly, we lost our Luke this past weekend. He had been acting strange and we took him into the vet about 6 weeks ago...only to find out he had lost almost 5 pounds in about a month. Lab tests didn't show any problems, so we kept an eye on him for 2 weeks and brought him back in. He had lost another 1 1/2 pounds. So they recommended an X-ray and an ultrasound, and sadly, we discovered that he had lymphoma throughout several of his organs. They offered a course of steroids to give him more time, but he had been so lethargic and weak that it just seemed mean to prolong his pain. So on Saturday he was put to sleep.

We have had him since he was 6 weeks old, and he just turned 10 last week. He was a wonderful cat. My favorite times with him were when he cuddled up and slept with me at night. We will miss him terribly, especially Leia, who doesn't know life without her brother.

Here are a few shots of him over the years. RIP Luke.

My first Mother's Day

This past weekend was pretty special...it was my first Mother's Day (obviously) and Matt and Simon made it really great. Matt gave me a gift a few days early (as is our inadvertent gifting tradition)--he got me a beautiful Skagen watch. For a while now I've been saying that I was thinking of getting a white watch sometime and he found me a perfect one.

Then, Saturday morning, he and Simon woke me up with breakfast in bed! They made delicious french toast, fresh fruit and OJ. We all shared bites, here are the remains of the meal and Matt and Simon on the bed sharing with me:

I got cards from both Matt and Simon, and Simon also gave me a pretty pair of silver earrings.Guess he figured out how to sneak out the window and drive over to the mall!

On Sunday we hosted our PEPS group, and it was extra special since it was the first Mother's Day for all 7 of the moms. Here are a few pictures...it's getting harder and harder to keep them all in one place for more than a second.

And thanks to everyone who sent really sweet cards and to Mom for the flowers! Hope everyone had a wonderful Mother's Day!!
